Lille Métropole 2020 World Design Capital

This exhibition, assembled from the archives of the Centre Pompidou’s Détours d’Objets” exhibition at the Frac Grand Large, along with works acquired by the Frac, explores the career of celebrated designer, sculptor and photographer Claude Courtecuisse.

A pioneer of thermoformed moulding, he and his wife, Agnès Courtecuisse, developed decorative, pop-inspired objects made from card, which were sold extensively in the 1960s. In the 1970s, he took a step back from industrial production and became a great compiler of history of design, endlessly collecting modest knick-knacks and day-to-day objects and layering them in variations marked by shapes, colours and volumes.
