Lille Métropole 2020 World Design Capital

Closely regulated and subject to strict financial conditions, the modular site building has until now been the poor relative of innovation initiatives ushered in by the construction industry. To solve this, Groupe Ramery launched a co-design challenge : to re-invent the modular site office of the future.

Groupe Ramery gave carte blanche to 50 talented individuals – students, engineers, site managers, foremen, tradespersons, administrative managers and so forth – assembled for a hackathon held at TechShop to share ideas and re-invent the site building of the future, guided by four key objectives :

  • Promote new working practices
  • Integrate with the city
  • Protect the natural environment
  • Imagine a second life

The project is now in the prototype phase. From November 2019 to February 2020, students from engineering schools Icam and HEI accepted the challenge from the experts at Groupe Ramery to develop a module that pushes the boundaries of the traditional site building in just four months. It needs to be re-imagined as a reception area and a workspace, but also a place for the construction crew to relax and for visitors to find information, and more.

Certified by Lille Metropole 2020, the World Design Capital, this new and improved site facility will be unveiled in spring 2020 before taking a tour of France at the group’s work sites.
