The Rex : when an old cinema is rehabilitated as a tourist and cultural place

he Rex is an old cinema dating from 1936, closed in the late 90s. Unoccupied since then, it retains a strong identity in the eyes of the inhabitants of Armentières and its surroundings. Its rehabilitation allows the establishment of the Inter-municipal Tourist Office and 2 exhibition spaces, one temporary, the other permanent. Separate entities united in the same goal of tourist reception and enhancement of heritage.

The PoC (Proof of Concept) made it possible to support the team in this project, by providing them with hindsight, analysis and expertise. The experience design” approach clarified the uses of the different spaces, the circulation in the building and outlined the layout. It was also the occasion to create custom-made furniture and fittings. All of these missions were entrusted to designer Arnaud Wink, as a continuation of the approach initiated with the World Design Capital 2020.
