The more mobile society becomes, the more sedentary people are… To combat this scourge, which has become a genuine public health issue, the world of research and design have joined forces to create the installation “ Playful City”.
“Playful City” is an activity course designed specifically for students and employees of the University of Lille Cité Scientifique campus in Villeneuve d’Ascq, encouraging them to get moving and combat the sedentary lifestyles that have become a genuine public health issue.
This project aims to transform urban spaces through design, inviting citizens to discover the enjoyment of physical activity in a fun way. It seeks to create surprising sensory environments to encourage users to get physically involved. This POC proposes to draw on the principles of gamification through colours, to offer supportive signage that aims to motivate pedestrians to walk more and learn about their own campus.
This has been achieved through an alliance between the worlds of RESEARCH (Prof. Yvonne Delevoye, researcher at the CNRS-ScabLab laboratory at the University of Lille) and DESIGN (Adamancia Batistou, design student, Amélie Lebleu, artist and designer and Capucine Diancourt, designer specialising in creating playgrounds) and a partnership with La Condition Publique in Roubaix.
Since “Playful City” was installed on the Cité Scientifique campus at the University of Lille, 10,000 steps a day are fun and enjoyable !
